Medical Examination by an Orthopaedist

If you experience difficulty and pain when walking, sitting or even lying, you should seek the help of an orthopaedist. An outpatient examination involves a consultation about the condition and evaluation of the hip joint mobility. The orthopaedist will want to know how long you have been having problems and to what extent the condition hinders walking. You will be asked about any injuries to the hip joint affected, and if you have had dislocation or hip dysplasia (deformation or misalignment of the hip joint) during early childhood.

The doctor will also ask you about your general medical condition, past surgeries, regular medication and allergies, and will provide you with all the necessary information on the treatment and possible complications. If you agree on a surgical intervention, you will also set an approximate date for the surgery.

You will be referred to the anaesthesiology clinic, where the doctor will fill you in on anaesthesia and tell you what examinations may be needed before the surgery.
